CATS, Jacob (1577-1660) - Alle de wercken. Amsterdam, AIA: Johannes Ratelband, Pieter van Thol , 1726. A richly illustrated collection of all the works of Cats, who was an extremely popular poet of his time. The two parts are complete with engraved portraits of the author and of Anna Maria Schurman (1607-1678), a Dutch poet highly esteemed by Cats, and with fine engravings, mostly emblematic representations based on drawings by Adrian van de Venne (1589-1662). 2 tomes in one volume, folio (415 x 245mm). Half-title, two engraved frontispieces, engraved vignettes on titles printed in red and black, many engraved illustrations, 2 engraved portraits, 3 double-page engraved plates in the second part (restorations to the margins of the leaves in the first three gatherings, restorations to the lower corner of 3Q-4P4 and at the lower corner of the frontispiece of the second work not touching the engraving, browning and foxing). Contemporary calf with gilt decorations on covers and spine, speckled edges, gilt decorated dentelles (rebacked preserving part of the original spine, rubbing and chipping). It was not possible to find a collation, our copy is collated as follows and is apparently complete: *-3*4, A-4P4, π2 (-π 2), A-3E4, *3E4 (-*3E2 and *3E4), 3F-4I4, A-H4, I2".
