Fredericks, Broadway, New York. Carte image presents good tones with some bumping at edges of carte and a corner loss (8mm x 8mm) and lower right corner. Daniel E. Sickles (1819-1914) United States politician and Army officer. In 1859 he killed the son of Francis Scott Key in Washington D.C. and was acquitted with use on temporary insanity defense (1st time in US history). He was both a Congressman and Senator from New York and would serve in the Civil War reaching the rank of major general before the loss of his leg as a result of being wounded at the battle of Gettysburg for which he received the Medal of Honor.
