Originally planned as a line from Atchinson west into Colorado, and given federal land grants by the Pacific Railway Act of 1862 as one of the branches of the Union Pacific Railroad. The line was acquired by the Union Pacific through a stock purchase byJay Gould and leased to the Missouri Pacific RR in 1880. Merged with it in 1909. The signature of the President is missing. On the back, we see the signature of Oliver Ames II as trustee. He was an important railroad promoter and President of the UnionPacific from 1866 to 1868.
