CEREMONIAL SWORD
Swiss, late 18th century, for Councilmen (also of Rural Municipalities).
Silver hilt, composed of cast and forged parts. Olive-shaped, faceted pommel, rivet head, hexagonal knuckle guard, small indistinct mark, short quillon, ornamental grip hook, oval guard plate, wavy rim decoration. Solid, faceted grip. Double-edged blade, Solingen (L 79.8 cm), with etched decoration, gilt ground somewhat rubbed. White-painted leather scabbard, silver mounts, two ring bands, shoe. Also includes iron carrying-plate with chains and snap springs.
