CEREMONIAL SWORD
French, Paris 1798–1809, French Consulate / Empire.
Silver hilt, composed of cast and forged parts, control marks Paris. Olive-shaped pommel, rivet head, knuckle guard ends in the grip base, short quillon, decorative grip hook, guard plate consisting of kidney-shaped halves, solid square grip. All parts with chiseled, carved decoration. Blade with triangular cross-section (L 82.3 cm), blued over the entire surface and with gilt etched decoration.
L 98.2 cm.
This type of ceremonial sword was popular during the Consulate period and the Empire and has a rare high-grade Solingen blade.
