Condition Report:
This painting is in good condition and could benefit from a light surface clean if desired.
The canvas is unlined, with a very faint stretcher mark corresponding to the outer and horizontal central stretcher bars. There are signs of surface dirt, and a small area of paint flaking in the dark pigments towards the far lower-right corner (visible in the illustration). Ultra-violet light reveals notably a small c. 1 by 2cm area of restoration to the left of the woman's left hand in the black veil, and some other small spots in the background. The old varnish prevents the U.V. light from penetrating fully however there do not appear to be other notable signs of restoration. There are some localised fine lines of craquelure, however these are not visually distracting.
Presented in a neoclassical gilt frame, with a nameplate (framer 'Charles Manteau, Bruxelles' label on the reverse)
