When asked about aping EC artists, Nostrand 'fessed up with refreshing candor: "It was my own idea... All this junk was my idea... This is, you know, pure Davis, this kind of garbage." – Graphic Story Magazine #16 (1974). But was it really Nostrand's idea to copy EC superstars Jack Davis and Wally Wood? Harvey's editor, Sid Jacobson, claimed to have ordered Nostrand to copy Davis and Wood in a bid to boost Harvey's artistic standards (see the entry for Flip #1 in the Pre-Code Humor section of this sale for details).______________________________________________________________
