Title: CHAMBER OF CHILLS No. 6 [and] TOMB OF TERROR No. 6 * Lot of Two Harvey Comics
Place Published:
Publisher:Harvey [Indicia: Witches Tales, Inc. and Harvey Publications, Inc.]
Date Published: 1952
Description:

Chamber #6: Fair/Good (1.5). Spine split about 40%, cover loose at bottom staple, slight spine roll, staple rust, creases, rubs, dogeared tear to back cover at spine, some soiling. Cream pages with tan edges. Lee Elias cover. Art by Bob Powell, Joe Certa, Warren Kremer?, Vic Donohue. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 2.5 sold for $77 in 2018; a 3.5 sold for $179 in August 2021.

Tomb of Terror #6: Fair/Good (1.5). Spine split about 40%, cover loose at top staple, spine roll, nicks, edgewear, typical Harvey blurring to reds on front and back covers. Cream pages with tan edges. Cover: Lee Elias. Art: Joe Certa, Mo Marcus, Rudy Palais, Abe Simon. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in the grade. Lowest graded copy: A 4.5 sold for $250 in May 2020.

Chamber of Chills #6 features multiple ads for ladies' fashion, hair products, brassieres, and a correspondence course in "How to Write Thrilling Love Letters," which suggests that Harvey's marketing department, if they had one, thought women comprised a prime demographic for this title. In between the ads are stories in which monsters melt the flesh from a woman's skull and tiny severed heads chew a man to death; both events are depicted with a queasy lack of restraint. Meanwhile, in a curious reversal, Tomb of Terror's ads skew towards lads: "Now any adventure loving boy can build Da Vinci's flying wings with just ordinary carpenter's tools"; "Do You Want a SUCCESS-WINNING VOICE?"; "COMBAT ACTION Plastic TOYS"; "Have a Wallop-Packed BODY OF SUPER STRENGTH."

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
