CHARLES BLACKMAN | YOUNG GIRL + OLD CAT

[ translate ]

Property Sold to Benefit Eltham College

CHARLES BLACKMAN
1928-2018
YOUNG GIRL + OLD CAT

signed; titled and inscribed on the backboard
oil on canvas stretched over board
124.5 by 156cm.; 49 by 61½in.
Executed circa 1980s.

Condition Report:
The canvas appears to have stretched over a board but is not fully laid down to the board but may be adhered in a number of places. The board bows very slightly, most visibly at the lower corners and the canvas is original. There is a very slight push to the centre of the upper edge associated with a pin on the verso. There are possible spots of bloom to the darker brown pigment in the leaves and to the girl's hair. There is a faint vertical scratch towards the lower right edge. There are one or two very faint scuffs or rubs in places, only visible upon close inspection. There is possible historic and minor loss and flattening to a small number of impasto tips in the flowers. There are a few instances of minor specks of detritus, staining and surface matter and some light surface dirt in places. This excepting, the work appears in good overall condition.

Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching.

The work is housed in a gilt painted wooden frame.
