"Portrait of un unknown gentleman", ca. 1820. Pastel/paper, 29 x 24 cm, framed. The sitter may possibly be identified with the Amsterdam art dealer Frans Buffa. Buffa was active in Amsterdam from c. 1800 onwards. After his father returned to Pieve Tesino in 1820, Sebastian took over the business together with his brother, now under the name Frans Buffa & Zonen from 1820. He lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from c.1800-1836 and returned to Pieve Tesino, Italy in 1836. Provenance: Private collection, Germany.
