CHARLES II ENGLISH SILK & STUMPWORK EMBROIDERY

Silk panel depicting the Judgment of Paris in petit point, embroidery stitch, and stumpwork. Including the figures of Mercury, Daphne, and Cuamen Sibyl, and Hyacinathus. With an elaborate background setting including a castle, the hand of God, and exotic flora and fauna. In a moulded tortoiseshell and ebonized period frame. English, 17th C (c.1660).

Provenance: Estate of Marie Creem, Christie's, New York, 16/October/1996 from who purchased by the present Private Collection, Toronto.
