CHARLES II ENGLISH STUMPWORK DRESSING MIRROR / LOOKING GLASS, silk, thread-wrapped metal purl / wire, chenille, and glass on silk satin over frame, two sides depicting a man, possibly King Charles II, holding a staff in one hand, looking towards a woman, possibly Catherine of Braganza, holding a lute, corners with animals featuring birds the upper corners and a leopard and a stag in the lower corners, all surrounded by flowers and plants as well as various insects including a caterpillar, ladybugs, and butterflies, top center with a castle and lower center with a pond holding a swan and fish, a rectangular mirror glass to center of frame, back with a recessed area that formerly housed an attached easel which is missing. Second half 17th century. 6 3/4" x 8 3/4" mirror sight, 16 1/2" x 21" OA.

Condition Report: Poor overall condition with scattered losses, overall toning and discoloration, mirror plate broken into three parts, frame base seems solid but possibly with imperfections.
