Framed Letter in pencil, dated Oct 10, 1906, from Great Falls, Montana, reading "Friend Schatz, I'm a long time answering your letter, but you know I never was rapid with pen or pencil. I don't have to tell you that the Saloon picture is about a brawl started over cards when guns are trump represents the life Knight lived and will no doubt remind him of the old west he usta know. Its bold in techinique and rather rough but a fine picture withal. I hope Jack likes it. Your friend, CMR (with cow skull)." In a 1970s mahogany frame with ochre suede liner, under glass, OS: 11" x 9 3/4", SS: 6 1/2" x 5", water stained but legible. Possibly to Charles Schatzlein, a fellow western artist from Montana, born 1857.
