39.4 x 39.2 cm (15 1/2 x 15 1/2 in.)
engraved signature “c. Pebworth” in the metal

LOT NOTES
A polished aluminum field is divided into riveted panels joined by fine seams. A looped form at the top opens into a sweeping shoulder line, and three machined discs sit across the upper register above two curved lower panels. Brass pins mark each joint. The discs carry turned and ruled surfaces, which set the precise machine work against the hand-fabricated plate. The arrangement reads as a stylized torso without being literal. Pebworth, a Texas artist of Choctaw descent, taught at Sam Houston State University from 1957 to 1993 and was named Texas Artist of the Year in 1987. He was best known for metal reliefs that combine contrasting materials with personal and abstract elements.
Keywords: Charles Pebworth, Texas Metal Relief Sculpture, Choctaw American Artist, Abstract Figurative Wall Sculpture, Modernist Relief, Mixed Metals on Wood
