CHASE CHARLEY: (1893-1940) American comedian, vaudevillian, actor, screenwriter and film director who worked for many pioneering comedy studios but is chiefly associated with Hal Roach. A scarce vintage signed and inscribed sepia 10.5 x 13.5 photograph of Chase in a pensive head and shoulders pose, looking downwards and with one hand raised to his chin. Signed in blue fountain pen ink to a lighter area at the base of the image, ´To Foxy & Chas, In memory of Hoover´s speech - Charley Chase, Vote for "Al"; an additional sentiment ( ´But I vote for Hoover´) signed (´ Bebe´) by an unidentified individual appears to a darker area beneath Chase´s signature. The name of Chas appears to have been altered at some stage as a replacement to the name of the original recipient.
