CHINESE CERAMIC ELEPHANT GARDEN STOOL 14"

Decorative Chinese ceramic elephant-form garden stool or plant stand featuring a raised trunk and richly molded ceremonial trappings. The elephant is finished in a creamy white glaze with turquoise, cobalt blue, rust, tan and gilt-tone accents. Ornate relief decoration includes scrolling motifs, floral elements, tassels and stylized Asian symbols, with a square platform mounted across the elephant's back. The top features a prominent central longevity-style character medallion surrounded by decorative corner motifs. Raised trunk traditionally serves as a decorative symbol associated with good fortune. Visible glaze crazing, firing irregularities and surface wear are present. A notable area of glaze loss/chipping is visible along one corner of the top platform, as photographed.
