CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL PLATE BEARING ARMS OF CHAPMAN FAMILY, 18TH CENTURY
with the motto 'crescit sub fondere virtus (Virtue thrives under Oppression), with the large central armorial device within an iron-red and gilt spearhead border, the cavetto with bianco sopra bianco scrolling flower and foliage decoration and all within thin gilt sawtooth band, gilt rims

Ex-collection Polly Latham, no. 5041 Dimensions: Diameter: 9 in. (22.9 cm.)

Condition: Some of black letters in motto rubbed and lost, some staining to bianco sopra bianco of flowers on cavetto in two spots, as well as a small dot. Larger spot was black lighted and did not fluoresce. Polly Latham gallery sticker to reverse and two other stickers..
