CHINESE HUALI LOW TABLE, KANG MING TO QING DYNASTY
明至清 花梨有束腰炕桌
the rectangular top panel enclosed by frame above a recessed waist, supported on square section legs ending in hoof feet
Dimensions:
62.4 cm x 16.5cm x 31.5cm
Provenance:
Private Scottish collection, Perthshire
蘇格蘭私人收藏, 珀斯郡
Footnote:
Unlike larger kang tables intended for semi-public domestic platforms, tables of this diminutive height were likely designed specifically for placement upon bedding within the curtained bed chamber. In elite late Ming interiors, the canopy bed functioned as a self-contained architectural environment, retaining warmth and creating a private sphere for reading, tea service, writing and cultivated leisure. Furniture produced for this interior space required both structural refinement and restrained proportion.
