CHINESE NEOLITHIC POTTERY COVERED JAR, 3RD MILLENIUM BC

Ceremonial Jar in white clay, Liangzhu culture, having a tall hollow pierced foot, low bulbous belly with long broad tapered neck having two small lugs, the dome lid with two piercings (possibly to lash to lug) and featuring a tapered 'cup' attached to the underside. Very unusual form. 5" x 4" diam. Repaired lid.See "Dawn of the Yellow Earth", pg. 31. Provenance: From the Estate of Frank Cowan.
