CHINESE TANG DYNASTY MUSICIAN LADY
Ca. 618-907 AD. A terracotta figure of a female musician (flautist) in a standing pose on an irregular-shaped flat base. She wears a cream top and a long red dress, which flares at the bottom and reveals her black, pointed shoes. Her round face is finely detailed with thin eyebrows, narrow eyes, and red painted lips. Her hair is neatly combed into a high topknot. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot. Size: L:360mm / W:100mm ; 1.28kg Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
