CHINESE TANG DYNASTY TERRACOTTA FEMALE MUSICIAN - TL TESTED

A Chinese terracotta painted female musician. She is depicted wearing a green belted top and loose trousers. The long flowing sleeves are pulled up to allow her to play the Guzeng, a plucked string instrument. Her hair is tucked into a crown-like hat, with a bird perched on top. The green pigment may possibly be made from Atacimite, a mineral that was used to produce green pigment in China until Malachite was introduced. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
