CHIPPENDALE SLANT-LID DESK New England, Circa 1780

In tiger maple. Lid encloses eight pigeonholes, eight drawers, two letter slides and a central compartment with molded door. Compartment contains two pigeonholes and two drawers. Compartment is removable, concealing three hidden drawers. Case with four graduated tiers of drawers: a full-width drawer over two half drawers over two full-width drawers. Flat bracket feet. Retains period hardware, possibly original. Height 43.5". Width 37.75". Depth 21.25".

Condition: Slight splits at sides. Small patch near lid locking mechanism. Lid has been unlocked, and now can open. One pull missing off drawer inside central door of interior slant. (Updated 8/1/19).
