Three part case with solid top lid over a (replacement) brass signature boss, the lower section with swing handles, 9cms signed silvered dial with outer minute track and Roman numerals framing the subsidiaries for power reserve and running seconds, the chain fusee movement with maintaining power to the Earnshaw type spring detent escapement with freesprung blued steel helical spring to a cut and compensated bimetallic balance. Together with a case key and associated winding key. 16cms wide

This Arnold & Dent Chronometer, numbered 1237 has been in active service with the Dutch Royal Navy during the second half of the 19th Century and early 20th Century.
The internal lid with old paper label from Andreas Hohwü with inscription from 1850 and 1851 stating the names of the lieutenants responsible for the chronometer on board of the frigate Zr.Ms. Prins van Oranje (1828-1896).
Inside the box a label of A. De Casseres, Chronometer maker for the Dutch Royal Navy, who serviced number 1237 in 1908 and February 1910.
