Weighing Machine Cards - a piece of highly detailed, mixed media, original artwork for the cigarette card series of Weighing Machine Cards by Mardon, Son and Hall Ltd, 'Association Footballers', believed to be unproduced, depicting a portrait of Stan Mortensen (1949). Includes multiple pieces of paperwork containing the details and signed approval from Stan Mortensen for the use of his photograph for the artwork, dated 1949. Mounted on card, measuring approximately 15 x 21 cm. Artist unknown. Stan Mortensen (26 May 1921 - 22 May 1991) was a professional English footballer, known for his part in the 1953 FA Cup final, in which he became the only player ever to score a hat-trick in a Wembley FA Cup final. He was also the first player to score for England in a FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and the first England player to score in the tournament proper. He played for Blackpool, Hull City, Southport, Bath City, Lancaster City and England for his international career.
