CIRCLE OF VALORE CASINI (FLORENCE 1590-1660) AND DOMENICO CASINI (FLORENCE 1588-1660) Portrait of a noblewoman, traditionally identified as Vittoria Colonna, three-quarter-length, in a black dress oil on canvas 130 x 98 cm Vittoria Colonna (1492-1547) was an Italian poet and noblewoman of the Renaissance era. She was born into a wealthy and influential family in the city of Marino, near Rome. Colonna was well-educated and known for her literary talents, particularly her poetry, which often dealt with themes of love, spirituality, and personal introspection. Colonna was also known for her involvement in religious and political circles. She was a devout Catholic and was connected to the influential religious order of the Franciscans. She was also friends with many of the leading intellectuals and artists of her time, including Michelangelo, who was said to have been inspired by her beauty and intelligence.
