[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 8 photographs of Union soldiers from Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.

includes 7 CDVs and one 5-1/4 x 7-1/4 in. oval albumen photograph on 6-1/2 x 8-1/2 in. card. The young man in the 3/4-length image wears a 9-button frock coat with stripes of regimental quartermaster sergeant, slouch hat, and appears to be wearing 9-button shell jacket under his coat. No backmark or other photographer's ID.

Six of the seven CDVs have backmarks: seated image of soldier in 9-button sack coat, backmark of Miller & Rowell, Boston; two marked J.W. Black, Boston, one a full-length image, crossed cannons (artillery) on his kepi, the second a seated image of a soldier holding a sword in one hand, his hat in the other; full-length image of soldier in 9-button frock coat (clipped corners), backmark of J.R. Laughlin, Philadelphia; 3/4-length image of soldier holding his sword, wearing a 9-button frock coat, hat on the chair beside him with "7" on front; full-length image of man wearing 9-button frock coat, sword on belt, sash colored red, as is chord to his left, backmarked "Rintoul & Rockwood, New York (City)." Last cdv is head and partial shoulders only and has no backmark, or if it does it is covered by a one cent revenue stamp. There is a hand-stamp over the revenue stamp, but it is partial - only "& Oliver" and "Orleans" visible along with date of June 13, 1865.
