[CIVIL WAR] C. Sharps Pepperbox Pistol
Model 1C pepperbox pistol. .22 caliber. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: C. Sharps & Co. Frame Stamped "C. Sharps & Co. / Philada. PA." and "C. Sharps / Patent 1859" on the reverse. Serial number "2005" stamped to grip.
A nice example of a Model 1C “Pepperbox” pistol by C. Sharps & Company of Philadelphia. This pre-war personal firearm was highly popular on the civilian and military markets, with Sharps & Co. producing 89,000 of the Model 1 alone. The 1C was the most-produced variant of the Model 1 range with about 26,000 manufactured. The four barrels within the brass frame are .22 caliber. The grip is an attractive checkered or cross-hatched pattern in hard rubber; most of these pistols came with factory-original walnut grips but the company offered replacements of various designs in rubber as well. Serial number 2005 places it within an early production range for the Model 1C pistols.
