CIVIL WAR CAVALRY FORAGE CAP AND BOOTS

Civil War forage cap - blue wool with leather brim and sweatband. Federal eagle buttons with "C" on the shield for Cavalry. Burlap lining. Maker on the buttons is slightly obscured by the chinstrap, but they appear to be W.G. Mintzer. Comes with leather Cavalry boots with nailed leather soles and pull straps. The boots are stuffed with newspapers from the 1960s. Consignor states that both the cavalry boots and cavalry forage cap belonged to the same soldier, and that he possibly served from the state of Pennsylvania. Boots are solid and the leather is fairly supple. The wool on the forage cap shows considerable tracking and age wear, but is also solid and stable. Very Good
