CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE PALMETTO CAVALRY SABER.
36” Blade, William Glaze had contract w/ the state of South Carolina for cavalry sabers in the early 1850s & this is one of the swords he supplied. The sword is correct S&K type 1 model 1840 heavy cavalry saber marked “Columbia S.C.”. Most of the sabers saw service in the South Carolina cavalry during the war. CONDITION: good to very good overall, blade is gray/brown, stained & pitted, marking is only partially discernible. Grip is better than average retaining most original leather & wire, worn through in high places showing cord under wrap. The accompanying iron scabbard w/ 2-pinned throat fits well, w/ iron patina.
