CIVIL WAR MODEL 1862 COLT POLICE REVOLVER

SERIAL NUMBER: 9173, BARREL: 6 1/2", CALIBER: .36, MFG: 1862. Original percussion Colt Model 1862 Police revolver. Unusual version with non fluted 5 shot cylinder. The cylinder is marked: "Pat: Sept. 10th 1850" just like the fluted examples. It is apparent that the revolver has always been in this configuration. All the serial numbers match including the wedge. The grips have been checkered, perhaps by a bored Civil War soldier. The barrel has the Colt New York address. CONDITION. Very Good, Smooth metal with a plum brown patina. There are traces of blue in protected areas. The action works and locks up tight. The bore has good rifling with frosting. An nice example of the Colt Police revolver, manufactured early in the Civil War. ANTIQUE
