CIVIL WAR US 56th PA INFANTRY CAPTAIN'S COMMISSION

[ translate ]

Commissioning warrant from 1865 appointing James N. Davenport of Luzerne County Pennsylvania to the rank of Captain in the 56th Pennsylvania Infantry. Davenport initially enlisted on December 5, 1861 as a First Sergeant with Company G. He survived the war and remained a member of the 56th PA until the end, finally serving as a Captain. The 56th PA served in the defenses of Washington, as part of the Army of the Potomac, and as part of the Rappahannock department. The paper is yellowed and has a large run of discoloration directly down the center, but is still intact and legible. Very Good.
