Art Decó sculpture of a dancer, combining white marble and marbled marble. The exotic dancer adopts a dance step on a pedestal with a frieze in relief of Egyptian inspiration. Her skirt undulates in dynamic drapery. Her torso is bare except for a few ornaments and a long pearl necklace.
Claire Colinet was a French sculptor of Belgian origin. Most of her works are in the Art Deco style. She is best known for her bronze figures of dancers of the world. She studied with Jef Lambeaux. In 1929 she was elected a permanent member of the Salon des Artistes Francais. Her work was frequently exhibited at the Paris Salons (Salon des Artistes Francais and Salon des Independents art exhibitions) and after her death, they were exhibited for 30 years at the Salon de Paris. The Museum of Art Nouveau and Art Deco (Casa Lis) in Salamanca exhibits his chryselephantine sculptures Walkyria (1920), Dancer of Thebes, Hindu Dancer and Carmen.
