COGNAC—THE DEVIL'S BOTTLE—c. 1930
COGNAC—THE DEVIL'S BOTTLE—c. 1930
Signed “R. Lorin”
Original lithographed advertising card. 29.2 x 25.2 cm.
Good condition—
with very vibrant colors. There is a faint mark on the left side that in no way detracts from the well-preserved image.
Produced by Maison Bonnal (Paris / Saint-Jean-d’Angély), this cognac is famous for its molded bottle shaped like a clawed hand. This design is inspired by the story printed on the bottles: “One day in the Middle Ages, Satan sneaked into the cellars of an old castle. He found this bottle, opened it, and tasted its contents. Captivated by the delicate bouquet of the fine brandy it contained, he could not let go until he had emptied it, leaving the imprint of his hand forever etched in the glass.”
It depicts a red devil seizing the drink.
