Peter Hutchinson.
Notes:
Peter Hutchinson (1930?2025) was a British-born American artist who became deeply immersed in New York's experimental art community. Although he was not a member of the Fluxus movement, he developed close friendships with many of its artists over the years. A regular at Max's Kansas City, the legendary New York gathering place for artists and musicians, Hutchinson met many of these artists there during the 1970s.
His collection of Fluxus and related works grew organically through these relationships. Rather than assembling the works solely as a collector, Hutchinson acquired many of them directly from fellow artists through friendship, exchange and trade. The resulting group offers a personal record of the artistic networks in which he participated, spanning his longstanding connections between New York and Provincetown, Massachusetts. The collection includes works by artists with whom Hutchinson maintained relationships over the course of decades, giving the individual objects a provenance rooted in the informal exchanges and friendships that were central to the experimental art community of the 1960s and 1970s.
