COLLECTION OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENT AND MUSIC THEMED COSTUME JEWELRY PINS

A group of nine brooches depicting musical instruments and motifs. Designs include drums, horn, violin, harp, flute, and musical notes.

Sizes range from approximately 1.5" L x 1" W to 4" L x 2" W.

N.B. A similar group appears in Secretary Albright’s book Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box (2009).

President Bill Clinton, Czech Republic President Václav Havel, and Albright shared much in common, including their love of jazz. During a visit to Prague, President Havel took them to the Reduta Jazz Club where he gave President Clinton a Czech-made saxophone and the American president jammed with the band. Secretary Albright was a major supporter of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, formerly the Thelonious Monk Institute. Not only did she debut her amateur drumming skills at the Kennedy Center, she managed to assemble almost an entire jazz band of brooches on her shoulder for various celebrations.
