COLLECTION OF NEO-ASSYRIAN GLAZED-COMPOSITION BOTTLES
Ca. 800 - 700 BC. A group of three small globular bottles fashioned from pale glazed composition or faience. Each vessel is formed with a rounded body tapering towards the base, a short cylindrical neck and a substantial, broadly everted rim. The smallest example retains a projecting attachment immediately below its mouth, probably representing the remains of a small handle. Traces of blue-green colouring indicate that the vessels were originally covered with a coloured glaze, recalling the brilliant surfaces favoured in Neo-Assyrian luxury production. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 55.121.2. Size: 80-90mm x 65-80mm; Weight: 365g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly in a German private collection before 2000.
