The present lot refers to a famous fresco depicting the Nursing Madonna in the Santuario della Madonna del Sangue, in Re, Val Vigezzo, Italy. In 1494, a stone hit the fresco and it miraculously started to bleed. Therefore this painting depicts the Virgin with drops of blood on her forehead.
