Cal. .69. NSN. 42” Bbl. marked "W.G&CO." on breech. Lock is smooth & gray w/ crisp "Palmetto Armory, S*C" around a Palmetto tree forward of hammer & tail is well struck "Columbia/S.C. 1852. Buttplate has SC surcharge & bayonet has “WG”. See attached excellent American Society of Arms Collectors bulletin on Palmetto rifles by Dr. Fred Novy w/ interesting comments concerning the bbl. proofs showing that Palmetto utilized Springfield 1842 inspected bbls., stamping the Palmetto tree proof over Springfield eagle head proofs. CONDITION: good to very-good as assembled. The original lock has well discerned markings. Markings on bbl., buttplate & bayonet do not appear to be original. (01-18463/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-7,000.
