Quarto volume of vi- 5 unnumbered +234+1 pages. Full wine-colored leather binding, with the covers gilt-stamped. Copy that was presented to King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy, whose ex libris is mounted on the white moiré silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Dozens of fine photographs of the Delegates of the participating countries. Illustrated with 26 engravings, including the frontispiece, comprising 3 city views and 46 portraits of the participants in the congress. Some texts are in German, the great majority in French. This congress, held in Budapest, brought together representatives of anti-duelling leagues from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Hungary and Italy with the aim of creating an international union. These leagues wished to denounce the harmful effects of duels and to find legislative and social means to eradicate the practice. The participants in the congress belonged to the international aristocracy and bourgeoisie, as well as to various intellectual circles. This initiative virtually marked the end of the existence of duels in Europe.

Exemplaire offert au Roi Vittorio Emanuele III d’Italie, dont l’ex-libris figure collé sur les gardes en soie moirée blanche. Tranches entièrement dorées. Des dizaines de belles photographies avec les Délégués des pays intervenants. Illustré de 26 gravures, y compris le frontispice, comprenant 3 vues de villes et 46 portraits des participants au congrès. Certains textes sont en allemand, la grande majorité en français. Ce congrès, tenu à Budapest, réunit des représentants des ligues antiduel d’Allemagne, d’Autriche, de Belgique, d’Espagne, de France, de Hongrie et d’Italie, dans le but de créer une union internationale. Ces ligues souhaitaient dénoncer les effets nocifs des duels et trouver des moyens législatifs et sociaux pour éradiquer cette pratique. Les participants au congrès appartenaient à l’aristocratie et à la bourgeoisie internationales, ainsi qu’à divers milieux intellectuels. Cette initiative marqua pratiquement la fin de l’existence des duels en Europe.
