CONIATA, Niceta (ca. 1155-1217) - Historia degli imperatori greci […] in XIX. libri. Venice: Vincenzo Valgrisi, 1562. First Italian translation edited by Giuseppe Orologi and reprinted the same year by Sansovino. It is one of the richest and most detailed chronicles of the history of the Byzantine Empire. Of particular interest are the chapters dedicated to the IV Crusade and the sack of Constantinople in 1204. 4to (209 x 155mm). Printer's device on title and at end, woodcut initials (some soiling and occasional light staining, tiny wormtrack to bottom margin of some central leaves). Later half vellum over paper boards (minimal wear).
