COP .357 MAGNUM 4 SHOT DERRINGER
SERIAL NUMBER: 008087. BARREL: 3 1/8". CALIBER: .38 SPL / .357 MAGNUM. The COP .357 Derringer is a unique, four-shot, break-action pistol designed in the late 1970s and manufactured during the 1980s by COP Inc. [1] Short for "Compact Off-duty Police," this compact firearm was built specifically as a heavy-duty backup weapon for law enforcement officers. Unlike traditional two-shot derringers, it features a distinct four-barrel cluster made entirely of solid stainless steel, chambered to fire both powerful .357 Magnum and .38 Special cartridges. Mechanically, the pistol operates using a double-action-only (DAO) system with an internal rotating striker. Every time the trigger is pulled, the striker automatically rotates to align with the next chamber, firing the four barrels sequentially. Because it relies entirely on a mechanical trigger pull to rotate the striker and compress the mainspring, the trigger weight is notoriously heavy and stiff?often measuring around 18 to 20 pounds. While its robust stainless steel construction makes it incredibly durable and highly concealable, the firearm received mixed reviews in practical use. Firing full-power .357 Magnum rounds out of a small, 1.75-pound handgun produces intense, painful recoil and significant muzzle flip, making quick follow-up shots difficult. Additionally, the fixed, low-profile sights and the varying points of impact from four separate barrels limited its effective range. Production ceased by the late 1980s, but the COP Derringer's distinct, futuristic appearance cemented its legacy in pop culture, frequently appearing in movies like The Matrix Reloaded and video games like Team Fortress 2. CONDITION: Very Good. The bores are bright with sharp rifling. Operates normally. MODERN 27-533
