COSTES (Roger). Harmonia mensurarum, sive analysis & synthesis per rationum et angulorum mensuras promatæ: accesserunt alia opuscula mathematica.
Cambridge, Robert Smith, 1722. [20], 249-125 pp. - 1 folding plate. In-text figures. Full calf, spine ribbed. Binding restored (boards and spine rebacked).
"Roger Cotes (1682-1716) published only one scientific paper in his lifetime, and the present work is therefore the main record of his mathematical achievements. He worked with Isaac Newton on the preparation of the second edition of Newton's Principia Mathematica (published in 1713). Harmonia Mensurarum is, according to Auguste de Morgan, "the first work in which decisive progress was made in the application of logarithms and the circle properties of the calculus of fluents", and includes the first version of Newton-Cotes' formulas, the first introduction of Euler's formula and the "Côté theoreum" of trigonometry. Cotes died of a fever in 1716, aged just 33."
