reliefs with the depiction of Eros resp. Aphrodite, both standing at a sacrificial altar.
The stem formed like large fully plastic Victorias with large wings in antique garments.
In their raised arms they are each holding a fruit basket from which five arms are growing.
Weight: Ca. 7670g.
Measurement: Height each 73,5cm, Width at the top 31cm.
Mark: Crescent & crown, standard 800, maker's mark Neresheimer (from 1890, Scheffler, Hessen no.489).
One chandelier arm lost, one plugged in.
Provenance:
Private collection Berlin.
This monumental pair of girandoles is impressive not only for its formal language and size, but also for its rarity. As a rule, we encounter girandoles of this type in the form of fire-gilded, partly patinated bronze, for example after designs by the famous Parisian bronzier Pierre-Philipp Thomire. In this case, however, the Neresheim manufactory created a precious work entirely of silver modelled after the masters of the French Empires.
