Title: CRIME SMASHERS No. 7
Place Published:
Publisher:Trojan [Indicia: Trojan Magazines, Inc.]
Date Published: November, 1951
Description:

CGC certified: VG (4.0). Off-white to white pages. Cover: Wally Wood and Ken Battefield. Stories and art: Robert Leslie Bellem, Adolphe Barreaux, Max Plaisted, Keets Petree. Overstreet: "Female heroin junkie story." GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 3.0 sold for $316 in February 2019, and a 4.5 sold for $552 in June 2020.

Wooden WOOD-work? Despite a lack of Overstreet and GCD credits, this ish's rather wooden cover art has been attributed to Wally Wood. Vanguard's "Wally Wood: Eerie Tales of Crime and Horror" includes it in its cover gallery, and Fantagraphics' "The Life and Legend of Wallace Wood Vol. 1" claims that "Wood and Battefield also drew the cover for Crime Smashers #7.... It appears Wood penciled and inked the figures on the left while Battefield handled the police officer entering the scene from the right."

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
