CROLIUS ATTRIBUTED, MANHATTAN, NEW YORK DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately two-gallon capacity, wide-mouth form with plain rim and open loop handles. Slip-trailed cobalt swag decoration to both sides, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Attributed to C. Crolius, Manhattan-Wells, NY. First quarter 19th century.
Condition: Rim with several flakes/chips, foot with moderate chipping, having some exfoliation to interior. Firing imperfections, including spall and glaze pops, as made.
Size: 10 1/2" H, 8 1/4" D rim.
