CRUIKSHANK GEORGE: (1792-1878) British caricaturist & book illustrator, associated with the works of his friend Charles Dickens. A good series of pencil sketches signed by Cruikshank, one page, oblong 4to, n.p., n.d. The various preparatory caricatures include a gentleman seated in a full-length pose playing a violin, another male figure repeated three times is depicted with a small brass or wind instrument, possibly a galoubet, and another stands in a full-length pose beating a drum and blowing a bugle. Three other studies represent a fashionable gentleman of the Regency era, with his hair tied back. Signed ( ´Geo. Cruikshank´) by Cruikshank in ink to the base of the page. Evidently removed from an album, the verso of the page features a colour printed lithograph of a caricature by Henry Monnier titled Récréations - Promenade nocturne.
