Cabinet - Baroque - Ebony, Silver - Second half 17th century

A rare Antwerp collector's cabinet in ebony veneer with moulded panels and columns. When opened, the lid - which has a small compartment under its "roof" - reveals a deep compartment clad with velvet which looks, when seen from the front, like dummy drawers. Furthermore the cabinet has, behind its front door, four small and one large drawer and a central "hidden" compartment hidden behind a small panel with a double arch and original mirror glass The heart-shape escutcheon and key are made of silver. The key has a small, unidentified maker's mark. Antwerp. Baroque. 2nd half of the 17th century. Dimensions: H 24cm ; W (front) 28cm ; D (side) 19,5cm Sold as seen on the pictures with the usual traces of use, age and wear and some damage to the veneer. A stable crack in the mirror glass. Nevertheless in fine, presentable condition, untouched as it should be with a cabinet of this age !
