Completely restored & fully functional cabinet (iso dansu) with a secret drawer. Beautifully transparent lacquered in 2 parts and with all original hardware. Heavy handles and protective hardware on all corners. With large elegantly shaped very heavily decorated lockplates with birds, plants and animals on each drawer and on the hinged door. Also with knobs in Chrysantheum (Kiku) shape. Please see pictures. With the original keys, they are functioning in the old fashioned Japanese way, not very smooth. The upper part has 2 large and spacious drawers. The lower part has 2 drawers and one hinged door on the lower right side, behind which are three smaller drawers and one hidden compartment behind the bottom drawer. This secret compartment is rare to be seen and it makes this cabinet very unique. With 4 handles on the sides that are made to make it easy to transport. Made of indigenous hinoki cypress wood, the fronts of keyaki hardwood. Because of the transparent lacquer one can see the nice grain on the fronts of the drawers. The cabinet is in beautiful condition with a nice warm patina. Late Meiji period, early Taisho period - approx. 120 - 150 years old. Size H. : 111. 8 cm W. : 105. 4 cm. D. : 45. 2 cm When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
