Cabinet - Louis XVI - Carrot nut on oak - Late 18th century

[ translate ]

Very beautiful honey-coloured cabinet, made of root wood on oak. Made with high quality and extinct craftsmanship. This walnut was taken close to the roots, at the bottom of the trunk, where the grain of the roots is still swirling wildly. This creates a fascinating interplay of lines in the grain. After that, the wood was carefully selected to apply the grain mirrored. So the piece that was directly behind one in the trunk comes in the same place on the second door. Alternating. In French that is called 'livre ouvert'. The interior is also in perfect condition. Furthermore, a very practical storage unit. On the inside three smaller drawers and beautiful oak shelves. The drawers are dove tailed, made with good workmanship and quarter sawn oak. These cabinets were often made by English craftsmen in The Hague or Amsterdam. These craftsmen came to this country a lot at the time. They also imported the ironware from England. The lock in the door is English. As well as the long brass latch. The double hood with those two arches next to each other was also very popular in England. Furthermore, this model is called 'single curved' because the bottom drawer is convex and the upper one is straight. The wrought iron locks (Dutch) have the latch asymmetrical - which is always an 18th century characteristic. Low height of 225 cm, so very easy to place. The cabinet can be transported in parts.
