Calcite Dalnegorsk, Dalnegorsk Urban District, Primorsky Krai, Russia "A white transparent single scalenohedral crystal. Bought the specimen from a miner in Dal'negorsk. I may have been the first American in there to buy specimens at the locality. This may have had something to do with the bargains that I found there." - Rock H. Currier Rock was probably not the first, but almost certainly one of the first, Americans, ever to get to the locality, at that time. The fact that he mentions 'bargains' is a telling one, because the locals are very quick to adjust their asking price to the obvious fact of "You came all this way from America just to buy what you say are almost worthless rocks?" "Nyet, tovarisch, I don't think so." The miner undoubtedly thought that he had gotten the better of Rock, and Rock grabbed his rocks and got the hell out of town before the news got around. You can bet the next buyer to hit town didn't get quite as much of a bargain. It really is an exceptionally nice example of the colorless, transparent Calcite that Dalnegorsk is famous for. It has a custom acrylic base. Overall Measurements: 5.5 x 4.7 x 2.8 inches (14.0 x 12.0 x 7.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #6211, acquired 1996 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
